Camp Weeks: Summer 2010
We invite kids age 6 to 11 to join in the farm fun at FarmWonders this summer! The theme of each individual week will be learnt through a variety of exciting recreational activities, crafts and hands-on science experiments. Each week will include a forest hike, a visit with our farm chickens, a workshop by one of our Farm Friends and a special harvest lunch on our last day of camp!
Registration limit: To accommodate the growing demand for our summer camp, we have decided to limit camper registration to one session per camper. Please respect this limitation.
3 Week Camps
SummerFarmers Session I (July 12 - July 30) $600 *1 placement remaining*
Enjoy all the wonders of the farm for 3 whole weeks! Dig deep into gardening with instruction and responsibilities in the Children's Learning Garden and Organiponico Demonstration Garden. Harvest the seeds you plant, feed our chickens, make scrumptious lunches, and learn all about the science that makes this farm work!
SummerFarmers Session II (August 9 - August 27) $600 *6 placements remaining*
Summer is here in full force and so is the harvest! Eat fresh blackberry jam on bread you bake in our Children's Garden Cob Oven from wheat you harvested, threshed, winnowed, and milled. And the jam, that's not all you made, sip a smoothy, and chew some mixed berry fruit leather - yum! Spend your afternoons exploring the cool shade of the forest but . . . . make sure you find all the zuccini before they are bigger than our chickens!
1 Week Camps
Week 1 - FarmExplorers (June 28 - June 30) $180 *registration is now full*
Get a jump start on the summer and join Farmer Feww in exploring the Children's Learning Garden at the UBC Farm with a mini 3 day week. Who knows, but our very special cows might even welcome you to Moooore fun!
Week 2 - FarmElements (July 5 - July 9) $200 *registration is now full*
Join Farmer Feww on an adventure! Explore four amazing elements that give the farm power to grow: Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind. Make fruit leather using solar power! Make soil from food-wastes!
Week 3 – FarmHabitats (July 12 - July 16) $200 *registration is now full*
What kind of habitat would you like to live in? From the precise honeycombs of bees to the complex tunnels of ants, explore and discover the many places that our farm creatures call home. Then, using clay, sand and straw, help us to build your own kid's Cob House!
Week 4 – FarmForests (July 19 - July 23) $200 *registration is now full*
Give the trees a chance to amaze you with their abilities. Investigate our eco-forest, build a tree fort, eat tasty tree sap, and find out how the forest helps us breathe!
Week 5 – FarmCritters (July 26 - July 30) $200 *registration is now full*
From the critters that care for the farm to the tiny ones that feed the farm, help us find and identify these amazing little creatures. See how they work together with the farm community to help build, grow and protect the plants you eat.
Week 6 – FarmPower (August 3 - August 6) $190 *registration is now full*
Blast through this week by exploring new and cool ways that energy is used and produced. From vegetable-powered vehicles to wind-powered turbines, see how our farm can truly be an “Energy Farm”.
Week 7 – FarmTransformers (August 9 - August 13) $200 *registration is now full*
Have you ever wondered how the tiniest seed transforms into a plant taller than you? The farm is changing all around you, but can you see it? The food you eat and you yourself are constantly transforming. Explore the wonders that allow this to happen and how you are involved in it already!!
Week 8 – FarmH2O (August 16 - August 20) $200 *registration is now full*
H2O is the water you drink and the clouds in the sky. The farm is your playground for water fun and discovery: giant sprinklers, ice cube towers, muddy earth, and maybe a lil' water from the sky! Water can be fun and amazing, but its most incredible stunt is keeping you and our farm alive.
Week 9 – Farmtastic (August 23 - August 27) $200 *registration is now full*

NOTE: If your child is currently registered in a one week camp and you manage to secure a placement for him/her in one of our SummerFarmers sessions, we will automatically assume that the SummerFarmers session is your preference and will remove your child from the weekly camp and offer it to a child on the wait list.
