The People
The people making it happen…
Hannah Buschhaus, Camp Coordinator
Hannah’s passion is working with children of all ages to create interactive outdoor learning spaces. A certified Master Gardener and plant physiologist by training, she finds joy in helping children better understand the science behind the trees they climb and food they eat. Hannah has supported young people’s growth in many places and ways, from horse tripping to planting potatoes. Her favorite garden moment is seeing the smile in a child who has accomplished a challenging project. She loves folk dancing with her husband, blowing dandylion epistobloom’s with her son, and swinging in hammocks on hot summer days.
Michael Caulkins, Program Leader
Mike's passion is working outside with young people, especially in the
garden, in the field, and in the forest. With a Master's in Kinesiology (sport
psychology) and finishing up a Doctorate in Curriculum Theory &
Implementation (alternative/experiential education) at SFU, Mike has
studied and worked in the field for over 15 years. With previous experience
as a YMCA camp counselor, wilderness guide, wilderness-therapy
instructor and university instructor, Mike brings a lot of history with him to
FarmWonders. His favorite camp activities are playing field games and
exploring the mysteries of compost (using his hands!) with kids. Mike loves
hiking with his wife Nora, playing ultimate frisbee, weeding with his 2-year
old son Bridger, and spraying FarmWonders campers on hot afternoons
with a garden hose.
Arielle Fraser, Leader
Arielle is excited to be back with FarmWonders for another year! Growing
up on Denman Island greatly influenced her passions for gardening,
cooking, and "getting back to nature." She loves to work with children and,
as a teacher in training, inspire children to become life long learners. Some
of her favorite moments from FarmWonders are watching children carry
zucchinis almost as large as themselves from the garden to the kitchen to
make chocolate zucchini cake.
Chelsea Pyles, Leader
Chelsea is looking forward to spending the summer with FarmWonders.
Coming from small town Wisconsin she feels the best part of summer is
enjoying nature and what it provides. As a helper at the farm last year she
had a great time sharing this with the children. Her favorite FarmWonders
moment is watching the children transform trees and branches from the
forest into forts and shelters.
FarmerFeww, Volunteer
As our longest serving volunteer at FarmWonders, FarmerFeww is eager to start the new camp season, and is especially looking forward to the new SummerFarmers program this year! While there are too many favourite moments to list, FarmerFeww knows that this summer is going to be the best yet!
