
As a volunteer with FarmWonders you will gain experience and have fun while helping the UBC farm run a successful summer camp for children ages 6 to 11. You will learn about working with children, leadership and teaching, various skills and knowledge related to plants, the environment, science, technology, outdoors, food, etc.

Volunteers play an important role in the success of our summer camp. Some of the
tasks you may expect to take on:
• Assist in set up and clean up.
• Provide support and extra direction to camp participants.
• Assist in leading games, crafts and activities.
• Actively participate in the program.
The following options are available for volunteer positions:
ONE DAY VOLUNTEER: (for participation at any of our program sessions)
Visiting FarmFriend 1:00pm to 3:45pm with some flexibility
Do you have an interesting farming skill, science job, or environmental story? If so, we would love to have you join us for an afternoon of knowledge sharing. Our leaders will assist all along the way to ensure you and the children learn exciting new things. In the past, workshops have included maple syrup tasting, hydro electric environmental
impact explorations, wind energy, solar car races, forest walks, bee talks, and much, much more. Your imagination and expertise are the limit!
1 WEEK SESSIONS (July 4th to September 2nd)
Gardening Gurus 10:00am to noon Tuesday to Friday
Do you have a passion for gardening and children? If so, this is your session! You will
lead a group of 4-5 children through all sorts of veggie gardening activities with a central focus on caring for your group’s very own vegetable plot in the Children’s Learning Garden.
FarmWonders FarmFriends 8:55am to 4:05 pm Monday- Friday
Do you want to spend a bunch of time outside with children this summer? Join us for a whole week of exploring the science behind the UBC Farm. Your enthusiasm and interest help bring the Farmer FEWW lessons alive!
3 WEEK SESSIONS (July 11th to July 29th and August 8th to August 26th)
Gardening Gurus 10:00am to noon Monday to Friday
Do you have a passion for gardening and children? If so, this is your session! You will lead a group of 2-3 children through all sorts of veggie and flower gardening activities with a central focus on caring for your group’s row of veggie plots in the Children’s Learning Garden. The SummerFarmers will have additional responsibilities in their very own personal farm plots as well as the shared garden beds. You will work closely with the Children’s Learning Garden Coordinator to ensure the ongoing beauty and productivity of the garden.

All adult volunteers over the age of 18 years are required to complete a successful criminal records check. We accept high school volunteers who have completed grade ten with a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or employer.
We have scheduled our 2011 Volunteer Orientation Session for Thursday, June 23rd, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. We will have a short farm tour, go through the volunteer handbook together, answer questions, and fill any empty spaces in our volunteer schedule.
